Former Sabetha Bluejay Engelken Earns Academic Excellence at Washburn

This week's "Blast from the Past" is Mason Engelken whose solid career for the Washburn University track and field team continued by earning Academic All-MIAA.

Last month, Mason earned the Academic Excellence award after earning a 4.0 GPA.

Mason sat out the outdoor season last season, but he finished ninth in the 60m hurdles at the MIAA Indoor Championships, and he also set a career best mark in the 400 at the WU All-Kansas Invite.

During his time at Sabetha, Mason finished second at state track in the 110m and third in the 300m as a senior and he was also named first team all-league at running back and defensive end his senior year.

He also owns the school records in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and was part of back-to-back 3A State Championship football teams.
