Axtell Claims Fourth Straight Class 8M-II State Championship

The Axtell football team won their fourth straight state championship on Saturday defeating Victoria 50-0 in Greensburg. 

The Eagles have won 52 games in a row which is the longest 8M streak in the nation and the third longest winning streak in the nation overall. 

Unofficial stats from the game: Brandon Schmelzle 7-of-16 passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns, 21 carries 69 yards and three touchdowns. Eli Broxterman four catches for 80 yards and a touchdown, seven carries for 35 yards. Wyatt Detweiler three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown, added a fumble return touchdown. 

The Axtell defense forced three turnovers with two fumble recoveries and an interception as well as forcing six turnover-on-downs. 

The Eagles senior class didn't lose a single football game their entire high school career and the state title was the fifth in Axtell school history.
