Axtell Takes Home Second State Title in School History
We’ll start with Axtell football as we highlight their entire team as part of our “Athletes of the Week”. The Eagles won the 8-Man Division-II State Championship this past weekend 44-18 over Wheatland/Grinnell.
It was the Eagles second State Title in school history and the first since 1993. Both State Title teams went a perfect 13-0.
The Eagles outscored their 13 opponents this season 704-160 which comes out to an average score of 54-12 each week.
The playoff run featured wins over St. John’s-Tipton, Hanover, Waverly, Thunder Ridge, and Wheatland/Grinnell and they outscored those five opponents 252-60.
The Eagles only had two seniors on the roster and will have most of their major contributors back next season as they will likely be the preseason #1 team in 8-Man Division-II as they will be in line for another State Championship.
