The high school cross country season is quickly coming to a close and last week the Hiawatha girls captured the Big 7 League championship.

At the front of the Redhawk’s seventh straight league championship was junior Kate Madsen who dominated her competition wining the individual league title by nearly a minute.

The win for Madsen comes after finishing runner-up at the league meet the past two seasons, while she also earned trips to state her freshman and sophomore seasons.

Her freshman season ended with a 14th place finish at state as the Redhawks captured the 3A State Championship, while this past season she finished 11th which ended in a fifth-place team finish.

Madsen has also reached state track the past two seasons and took 12th in the 1600-meter run along with a 13th place finish in the 3200-meter run last season. She took sixth in the 1600 at state her freshman season and added an eighth-place finish in the 3200.

Madsen and the Redhawks will look to make it back to state once again and wrap up the 2019 season strong with regionals set for Saturday, October 26.
