Peru State Splits Games on Opening Day of Conference Tournament

05/02/2013 11:45 AM | Regional Sports | John Nixon

In order to avoid some of Mother Nature's fury, the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) played two additional games on Wednesday.

With the change, the Peru State Bobcat baseball team did play in two of the five games at the Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Mo. The Bobcats dropped a 1-0 pitching duel in the first round to the Avila University Eagles. Playing just three hours later, Peru State responded and eliminated the Benedictine College Ravens 9-2 in the double elimination tournament.

With the split, the Bobcats' overall record is now 27-16.

When the tournament resumes, the Bobcats will face the loser of the Avila University versus Evangel University game.  Central Methodist University is the other team remaining in the tournament as Benedictine and MidAmerica Nazarene University were eliminated on the first day.

With a win, the Bobcats would face the loser of the Central Methodist versus Avila-Evangel winner.  At this point, the 'Cats will have to win four games to regain the HAAC tournament title.
