Husker Coaches Want More Speed on Defense

09/13/2012 8:04 PM | Regional Sports

(KLZA) Nebraska defensive coordinator John Papuchis (puh-POO'-chiss) says the first two games of the season made it clear the Cornhuskers need more speed on the field.

Freshman David Santos and junior college transfer Zaire Anderson have been practicing with the No. 1 defense this week. One of them could bump linebacker Alonzo Whaley from the starting lineup.

Whaley and his teammates had difficulty keeping up with UCLA in last week's 36-30 loss. The Huskers (1-1) also missed about two dozen tackles as the Bruins amassed 653 yards.

Freshmen defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Aaron Curry and freshman end Avery Moss also are expected to play more prominent roles in this week's home game against Arkansas State (1-1).
