Seneca knocks off Norton in first game at State Tournament

The Seneca legion baseball team opened the AA State Tournament in Concordia on Thursday afternoon with a 9-4 win over Norton. 

The difference offensively was in the third inning as Seneca scored seven in the frame highlighted by RBI doubles from Wade Leonard and Jonah Deters. 

John Strathman was the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game as he pitched into the seventh inning allowing four runs, seven hits with seven strikeouts. 

He also reached base twice and added an RBI single in the first inning which was the first run of the game. 

Norton was held scoreless until the final inning as they scored all four of their runs in the seventh on four hits. Strathman held Norton to just four total hits through the first six innings of the game. 

Seneca will play a winners bracket game against Garnett at 9:00 AM on Friday morning. Garnett beat Concordia 11-3 in the first game of the day.
