League Merger Approved for Big 7 and Mid-East

It's official.

Administration from the Big 7 and Mid-East leagues have voted to approve a league merger beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.

Teams in the new Big East League will be Hiawatha, Holton, Jefferson West, Nemaha Central, Perry-Lecompton, Riley County, Rossville, Royal Valley, Sabetha, Silver Lake and St. Marys.

The Mid-East league was formed in 1948 with two current members set to leave for other leagues due to the merger.

Rock Creek will join the North Central Kansas League and Wabaunsee will join the Flint Hills League at the end of the 23-24 season.

The Big 7 was formed in 1926 with Riverside being the only team going elsewhere. The Cyclones will join the Northeast Kansas League at the end of the 23-24 season.

The merger will improve scheduling logistics, increase academic and extracurricular opportunities and further elevate all schools involved.
