Kaws Season Ends in Quarterfinals of State Tournament

The Perry Lecompton boys basketball team had their season come to an end on Thursday night in the first round of the 3A State Tournament with a 64-47 loss to Southeast of Saline.

The Kaws (19-5) looked really good to start the game as they built a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

However the second quarter was the big difference in the game as the Trojans (23-1) outscored the Kaws 23-4 in the quarter to build a nine point halftime lead and never look back.

Perry Lecompton got 12 points and 11 rebounds from Gunnar Ball and they also got 11 points and four rebounds from Kamryn Kaniper.

Southeast of Saline got big games from Eli Sawyers and Nakari Morrical-Palmer. Sawyers finished with a game high 22 points and 11 rebounds while Morrical-Palmer added 14 points and 14 rebounds.

The Trojans shot 43% from the floor and they held the Kaws to just 33% shooting in the game.

Perry Lecompton was back at State for the first time since 2019 while the Trojans are back in the State Semi-Finals for a second consecutive season.
