Four Area Athletes Selected to 2019 Kansas Shrine Bowl Game

The 2019 Kansas Shrine Bowl Game rosters were announced Saturday afternoon and four area senior athletes were named to the East squad.

Two area players in Class 3A were selected to this year’s game, as Sabetha’s Elliott Strahm and Perry Lecompton’s Dalton Kellum were named to the East squad out of the Big 7 League. Strahm earned first team honors this season as a defensive lineman, while Kellum was named to the first team as a utility player.

For the Nemaha Central Thunder they will be represented by tight end and defensive Matt Baumgartner, who wrapped up his senior season with first team all-Big 7 League and first team all-state honors for Class 2A.

The final area athlete that was named to the Shrine Bowl was Centralia’s Derek VanDorn, as he earned an all-state selection for the second consecutive season.

The 2019 Kansas Shrine Bowl Game is set for Saturday, June 18 from Memorial Stadium in Dodge City with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
