Northeast Kansas League Awards All-League Football Honors
The football season has come to an end for Northeast Kansas League teams and the All-League honors have been handed out.
For the second straight year both Jefferson County North and Jackson Heights finished unbeaten in NEKL play not playing each other in the regular season but unlike last year meet up in the first round of the playoffs and JCN earned the win. The Chargers finished 6-0 in NEKL action and 10-1 overall making the Sectional round of the 2-1A playoffs. Five Chargers earned first team All-League offensive honors, while four got the first team nod on defense and one on special teams. Second teams honors were given to a pair of Chargers on offense and a trio of guys on defense and one player also picked up honorable mention honors.
Jackson Heights Cobras finished 8-2 on the season falling to JCN in the first round on of the 2-1A playoffs and posted a 5-0 NEKL performance during the season. Two Cobras earned first team All-League on offense and two more on defense, while four Cobras were named second team on offense and four more on defense and one more earned honorable mention.
Maur Hill-Mount Academy was back in the playoffs again in Class 3A and finished the season 7-3 overall and 4-2 in NEKL play. One Raven earend first team honors on offense and another on defense and one on special teams too. Four guys got the nod for second team All-League offense, while three players earned second team defense and one more picked up second team special teams honors. One more Raven earned honorable mention All-League honors.
Oskaloosa Bears finished 3-3 in NEKL action and 3-6 overall on the season. One Bear earned first team All-League defensive honors, while two players picked up second team offensive honors. One more Oskaloosa Bear earned honorable mention honors.
Both Horton and Pleasant Ridge finished 3-4 in NEKL play but finished 3-6 and 4-6 overall, respectively. Horton won the head-to-head matchup over the Rams to finish fifth in the NEKL standings. Leading Horton in the All-League honors was one first team All-League offensive honoree and two first team defensive players and one first team special teams player. Two more Horton Chargers earned second team special team honors and one more honorable mention honors.
Pleasant Ridge Rams qualified for the 3A playoffs yet again and have two guys on offense and defense earn first team All-League. Two more guys picked up second team honors on defense, while one more earned honorable mention.
McLouth finished 0-9 on the season 0-6 in the League and had one player earn first team All-League on offense, while another picked up honorable mention honors.
Valley Falls Dragons who are in the NEKL in all sports but unable to compete in the League for football as the Dragons play 8-Man football had one NEKL All-League honoree picking up honorable mention honors. The Dragons finished the season 0-9 this year.
