Valley Heights Mustang Volleyball Headed to 2A State For First Time Since 2009

For the first time since 2009 the Valley Heights Mustang volleyball team will be head to the State tournament after capturing the Class 2A Sub-State title at Salina-Sacred Heart on Saturday. 

Entering the postseason and Sub-State play as the three seed at the Salina-Sacred Heart Sub-State the Valley Heights Mustangs drew Lincoln in the opening round. The Mustangs galloped past Lincoln in straight sets winning 25-17, 25-13 to move into the Semifinals. In the Semifinals Valley Heights faced off with Republic County who upset the host Sacred Heart in the first round but the Mustangs were ready and won in straight sets 25-14, 25-18. 

Awaiting Valley Heights in the Championship match was the one seed Central Plains and the Mustangs once more won in straight sets but this time it was a pair of tight sets 25-19, 25-20. 

The win captured the Sub-State title for Valley Heights earning them a trip to the Class 2A State tournament for the first time since 2009 when they took third at State. The Mustangs with the 3-0 showing at Sub-State are now 28-10 on the season. Class 2A State tournament is set for action in Emporia at White Auditorium and Valley Heights will be the seven seed at the State tournament. Mustangs open pool play up at State on Friday, October 27th at 4:30pm against Kiowa County, then will play at 5:30pm against Pittsburg-St. Mary's Colgan and finish pool play at 7:30pm against Heritage Christian.
