Centralia Wins & Valley Falls Takes Second at Valley Falls Volleyball Invite

Tournament play continued the high school volleyball season on Saturday with seven area teams in action at the eight team Valley Falls Invitational. 

The Centralia Panthers continued to be a force on the volleyball court adding another trophy to the case by winning their third tournament title of the season taking the Valley Falls Invite with a 5-0 day. The Panthers dispatched Mclouth, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Jackson Heights all in straights controlling the matchups winnign 25-5, 25-14 versus Mclouth, 25-7, 25-13 over Maur Hill and 25-17, 25-11 against Jackson Heights. The battle with Maranatha and Valley Falls were a bit tougher for Centralia but the Panthers won both in straight sets claiming a 30-28, 25-21 win over Maranatha, while beating the host Valley Falls 25-23, 25-8. 

Valley Falls earned second place on the day with a 4-1 performance having their lone loss come against Centralia. The Dragons earned straight set wins over Oskaloosa (25-17, 25-10), Maranatha (25-16, 25-18) and Maur Hill (25-22, 25-19) while the Dragons needed three sets 25-16, 23-25, 25-14 to earn the win over Axtell. 

Maranatha earned third place, while Maur Hill finished in fourth place on the day going  2-3. Ravens fell to Centralia, Valley Falls and Maranatha (21-25, 7-25) all in straight sets. Ravens earned wins over Mclouth (25-20, 25-13) and beat Jackson Heights (25-14, 25-22). 

Oskaloosa nabbed fifth place on the day posting a 3-2 overall in the action beating Mclouth (25-20, 25-21) and Axtell twice (25-15, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-11, 25-13), while falling to Valley Falls and Maranatha. 

A 1-4 performance led Axtell to a sixth place finish as the Eagles lone win came against Jackson Heights in straight sets (25-19, 25-16) but fell to Oskaloosa twice, Maranatha and Valley Falls on the day. 

Jackson Heights finished seventh place posting a 2-3 record overall on the day between pool play and bracket action. The Cobras two wins were over Mclouth (25-6, 25-8 and 25-15, 25-14), while falling to Axtell, Maur Hill and Centralia. 

Mclouth finished eighth place at the tournament with a 0-5 performance.
