Atchison Girls Tennis Falls to Benton in Season Opener

The Atchison girls tennis team opened its season at Benton Tuesday afternoon, picking up a pair of wins coming in both singles and doubles action.

The lone singles win came from senior Brienna Dove who won 8-3, while in doubles action the sophomore team of Jordan Fitkin and Hailey Lewis came away with an 8-6 victory.

In other singles action the Lady Red struggled going 0-5, but each match came down to the wire. Olivia Wabski fell 8-4 along with Jordan Fitkin, while Hailey Lewis fell 8-6.

First year player Delores Brant had a strong showing in two tough losses, falling 9-7 in her first match and the second in a tie-break.

Dove and Wabski also teamed up for No. 1 doubles action, falling 8-3 to finish out the day for the Lady Red.

Atchison now has a quick turnaround as they are right back in action Thursday traveling to the Wamego Invitational.
