Big Seven League Football Honors Announced
While the football season rolls along for a pair Big Seven League teams it was another interesting and competitive year in the League with the football League title being won by Nemaha Central for the second straight year. The postseason All-Big Seven League honors have been handed out.
Nemaha Central went through the Big Seven League unbeaten for the second straight year this year registering an 8-0 League mark and 11-0 overall as they are play in the Sectional round of the 3A playoffs Friday night against Wellsville. Five Thunder players earned first team All-League on offense with four more getting honorable mention and on defense seven guys picked up first team All-League honors and one more honorable mention honors. Four Thunder players earned first team All-League on both offense and defense.
Sabetha Bluejays finished the season 9-2 and 7-1 in the Big Seven League taking second in the League finishing with their most wins since 2008, making the Regional round of the playoffs. Five Bluejays picked up first team All-League on defense with two more getting honorable mention, while on offense five more guys got first team and one more honorable mention and the Bluejays had first team kicker honors on their team, too. Three Bluejays snagged first team honors on both offense and defense.
The Holton Wildcats was the only other team outside of Sabetha and Nemaha Central to finish with a winning Big Seven record on the year going 4-2, while being 6-4 on the season and still alive in the 4A-DII playoffs facing Frontenac on Friday. Four Wildcats picked up first team All-League offensive honors, while two more got first team honors on defense with five snagging honorable mention honors.
Perry Lecompton notched a 3-3 mark in the League and 4-6 record on the season and had a player earn first team All-League punter honors, while a trio of Kaws were named first team on defense with two more honorable mention and three honorable mention honorrees on offense.
The Hiawatha Red Hawks quadruplbed their win total from the previous year finishing 4-5 on the season and 3-5 in the Big Seven. Two Red Hawks earned honorable mention All-League on offense, while two guys earned honorable mention on defense also and one on special teams, also.
Riverside Cyclones tallied a 3-6 mark on the year going 3-5 in League play and are led in the postseason All-League honors with one honorable mention honoree of offense, defense and specials teams each.
It was a 3-6 record for the Royal Valley Panthers also on the year going 2-5 in the Big Seven this year. Two honorable mention All-League honors on defense lead the Panthers postseason honors, while the Panthers had one guy earn honorable mention All-League on offense, also.
Jeff West Tigers finished just 1-8 on the season and 1-5 in the Big Seven this year battling injuries. One Tiger earned first team offense All-League honors, whlie a pair of Tigers picked up honorable mention honors on defense.
The ACCHS Tigers battled all season but finished 0-9 on the year and 0-5 in the Big Seven with a very young team. The Tigers had one player earn honorbale mention All-League honors on both offense and defense.
