Highland CC Sports Round-Up - Football Falls to Independence & Volleyball Suffers Pair of Losses

Highland Football Falls On the Road to Independence

Looking to bounce from their second loss of the season the Highland Scotties hit the road again to continue the football season and squared off with Independence CC. The Scotties despite a solid start the game offensively ultimately fell 45-24.

The teams traded points back and forth in the first quarter as Independence took the initial lead but with a 30-yard touchdown pass and 13-yard touchdown pass from Kahlil Render the Scotties led 16-14 with 4:59 left in the first quarter. Just 53 seconds later Independence took the lead back on a 50-yard touchdown pass, but Highland had an answer as Marquis Terry scored on a 25-yard screen pass making it 24-21 with 1:10 left in the first quarter and the Scotties carried that lead into the second frame. The Scotties unfortunately after a strong offensive start were held scoreless the rest of the contest being outscored 24-0 over the final three quarters to fall 45-24 on the road to Independence.

The loss sends Highland to 4-3 on the season and 2-3 in Jayhawk conference play. Scotties continue their season on Saturday, October 22nd at 1:00pm at home versus Iowa Western CC.

Highland Volleyball Loses Pair of Four Set Contests

The Highland Scotties volleyball team not too long ago had a 10-match win streak rolling but the script has flipped as the Scotties have had some struggles and now have lost six-straight including a pair of four set matches over the weekend.

In non-conference play the Scotties faced off against Kirwood CC and Indian Hills CC on Saturday and saw their losing streak move to six with a pair of four set loses. Highland fell to Kirkwood 20-25, 14-25, 25-23, 18-25, while falling to Indian Hills 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 13-25.

The loses move Highland to 19-11 on the season and they continue their season on Wednesday, October 19th with a road contest at Hesston.
