Atchison Girls Tennis Opens Season With Tough Loss to Benton

The lady Red Atchison tennis team got into the swing of the season on Monday as they hosted Benton for a dual contest. While the dual went the way of Benton it was a close finish 6-4 and Atchison head coach, Walt Hare believed it was a strong to the season against solid competition.

In singles action the lady Red tennis squad went 3-3 against Benton on the day. Eden Barnett picked up the easiest win claiming an 8-1 win, while Olivia Wabski won 8-2 and Alyxus Thomas picked up an 8-3 victory. The three single loss were really close matches for Atchison as Stormy Knott and Breinna Dove each fell 6-8 in the contests, while Kathy Tull lost 7-8 (7-5)

On the court in doubles competition the tandem of Knott and Wabski was the only lady Red gals to earn a doubles win, winning 8-6 in their contest. The teams of Tull and Thomas, along with Reece Dulac and Quincy Wells lost 3-8 in their matches. While Wells also teamed with Dove and played a tough contest against Benton but lost 5-8.

The lady Red will look to build upon their start to the tennis season as they continue the season on Thursday at the Wamego Invitational.
