Area Athletes Honored by Doane College

(KLZA)-- During the recent Doane Athletic Awards Ceremony, Tiger Athletics honored each team for the 2015-16 academic year. The most valuable player (MVP) was announced for each team as well as the Doane Athletes of the Year. Additionally, academic and athletic excellence was honored with the recognition of the Junior and Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Garrett Borcher, a senior from Pawnee City  was the recipient of the Bert Knapp Award/Football MVP. Borcher excelled on and off the field, earning First Team All-GPAC honors as well as First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.

The Track and Field MVP recipients receive the Sanderson Award. The men's honor went to Kale Wolken (Sr./Tecumseh, Neb.). A five-time national champion in the multi-events, Wolken won the indoor heptathlon this year and is the favorite to three-peat in the decathlon in late May at the outdoor championship.

Following an address to the senior class by Athletic Director Jill McCartney, the final awards were given out, the Doane Male and Female Athletes of the Year. The athletes of the year are chosen from the MVP honorees. The male recipient was a repeat selection as Kale Wolken was the honoree.
