ACCHS Takes Worley/Tilton Wrestling Tournament Title
The highs school wrestling season started to pick up on Saturday for many area teams and eight area teams competed at the annual Worley/Tilton Memorial Tournament hosted by Atchison.
The fifth ranked 3-2-1A team in the State in the ACCHS Tigers at the end of the tournament came away with the title defeating Wellsville in the Championship.
The day started off with pool play action, as Pool A had Atchison, Oskaloosa, Hiawatha, Wellsville and Eudora. Wellsville made it out of the pool with a perfect 4-0 mark beating Atchison 59-12, topping Hiawatha 60-18, winning 54-28 over Oskaloosa and winning their bout with Eudora 39-35. Eudora took second in the pool with going 3-1, beating Atchison 45-38, winning over Hiawatha 48-30 and beating Oskaloosa 41-36. The host Atchison picked up a win on the mats over Hiawatha 42-24 and tied Oskaloosa 36-36, while Oskaloosa finished fourth in the pool by beating Hiawatha 42-30.
In Pool B the ACCHS Tigers went a perfect 4-0 on the mats, beating Royal Valley 54-24, topped Maur Hill-Mount Acadmey 72-6, won against Pleasant Ridge 72-12 and beat Riverside 60-24. Pleasant Ridge finished second in the pool going 3-1 with wins over Maur Hill 57-18, Riverside 51-30 and Royal Valley 40-36. While Royal Valley took third in the pool beating Maur Hill 72-6 and topping Riverside 64-16. Riverside and Maur Hill rounded out the pool placing fourth and fifth in the pool as the Cyclones beat Maur Hill 54-30 on the mats.
After winning their pools ACCHS squared off with Wellsville for the Tournament title and the Tigers won the bout 54-30. In the third place match the Pleasant Ridge Rams wrestled past Eudora 46-30, while Royal Valley beat Atchison 60-27 in the fifth place bout. Riverside tied with Oskaloosa 36-36 in the seventh place bout and Hiawatha won 30-24 over Maur Hill in the ninth place match.
