South First, Central Third at Opening Quads
For Salina South, Brendan Borcherding won the 200-yard individual medley. The Cougars also won three relays. Borcherding teamed with Colin Truhe, Zach Kaszycki and Trey Lorenson to post a state qualifying time in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:50.26. Borcherding and Lorenson were on the 200 freestyle relay team with Alex Dombrowski and Rory Bowell, while Truhe and Kaszycki teams with Josh Miller and Ben Weishaar to take the 400 free relay.
Borcherding also added a state-qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke. Kaszycki qualified in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Truhe added a qualifying time in the 100 backstroke.
The Cougars racked up 383 points to take their portion of the quad, with Campus finishing second at 346 points.
For Salina Central, Zach Ketcher, Eldon Taskinen, Peyton Chard and Erick Nilson won the 200 medley relay in 1:55.21, qualifying for state. Nilson was a winner in the 200 free as well. Taskinen qualified for state in the 100 butterfly.
The Mustangs finished with 282 points, behind Campus at 377 and Great Bend at 356.
