Central Wrestlers Roll by South

The Salina Central wrestling team opened the season with a 58-18 dual win over cross-town rival Salina South on Thursday night at the Salina Central gym.

The dual was tight early, with South taking advantage of Central's opening at 106 pounds and a 9-3 decision by Derrick Zwigart at 113 to take the early lead.

Central answered back at the next two weights with pins by Gunner Rairden and Isaac Korinek at 120 and 126 respectively, edging in front.

South would tie the dual on a 4-0 decision by Allen Heberly-Morabito at 132 pounds.

However, Central then started to roll.

Donivyn Will started it with a pin at 138, and Sumjai Kounnavong picked up a major decision at 145. Dayton Will picked up a quick pin at 152 to push the Central lead.

South had one more win in the match, as Blaise Albers won by pin at 160 pounds. Central then took the remaining weights with Dalton Peters and Kyle True picking up pins at 170 and 182. Salina South was open at 195, 220 and 285.

Central, the defending AVCTL Division I champions, opens the season 1-0, while South is 0-1. Both squads will participate in tournaments on Saturday.
