Big Seven Softball All-League Honors Handed Out
Softball season has come to a close and the Big Seven League was top heavy this season with four teams dominating the top of the standings and two making the State tournament in 4A-DII.
The Jeff West Lady Tigers claimed the Big Seven League title for the first time of 2006 finishing the year 21-2 and took third in the 4A-DII State tournament. Olivia Brees who led the Tigers this season in the circle and was a key contributor at the plate earned All-League at pitcher, while her teammate Karli Fleischer earned All-League honors at outfield. Maddy Broxterman, Madison Greene, Emily Brown and Kaileigh Wright all earned honorable mention All-League honors. Broxterman earned the honors at catcher, Greene at utility, while Brown and Wright earned the honors at infield.
Santa Fe Trail Chargers also made the 4A-DII State tournament after finishing second in the League. The Chargers finished the year 15-4 after falling in the first round of the State tournament. Briahn Beckman was the only Charger to earn All-League honors, earning those honors at outfield. While Shelby Dahl earned honorable mention honors at pitcher.
Holton Lady Wildcats had the most players earn All-League honors as Emmy McManigal was named All-League at utility and pitcher, Ashleyn Weilert at outfield and Amber Searles at infield. Mikayla Booth earned honorable mention honors at outfield.
Royal Valley had the second most All-League honorees as Leslie Schuetz earned the honor at utility and infield, while Caitlin Burns earned the honors at catcher. Kaleigh Gray-Milligan, Jaycee Worrell and Marissa Lafferty earned honorable mention honors at pitcher, infield and infield, respectively.
Riverside had the lone two other All-League players as Erica Halter and Kim Euler earned the honors and infield and pitcher, respectively.
Hiawatha and ACCHS each had a gal earn honorable mention All-League as Kelsey Maxwell earned the honors at utility for the Red Hawks and Leah Scholz at outfield for the Tigers.
